Alert on Plasma Leakage in DHF
SOHO #BetterU: SOHO #BetterU: ASEAN Dengue Day

JAKARTA (10/06) – In cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), patients are experiencing leakage of plasma which contains water, sugar and electrolyte from the blood vessels to its surrounding tissues. If not attended, this leakage is able to generate ailment, illness and even death. That’s why the main treatment of DHF is to replace the loss of fluid caused by the plasma leakage. This was presented by Dr. dr. Leonard Nainggolan, SpPD-KPTI, an internal medical specialist at RSCM, at the SOHO #BetterU event: ASEAN Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Day in Jakarta (10/06). SOHO #BetterU is a series of health education program conducted by the SOHO Global Health pharmaceutical company.

DHF is an acute disease caused by dengue virus, transmitted by mosquitoes and is epidemic in nature (able to be transmitted among human). This disease can be found in tropical as well as sub-tropical areas and is widely spread in many South-East Asian countries. Besides, this disease is also a seasonal disease and is usually found during the rainy season which enables the transmission vectors (Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus) to grow in clean water puddles. Based on the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) 2007, there is a friction of DHF which was initially known as a child disease, but currently many cases are found on adult patients. The highest prevalence was found in the 25 - 34 year age group.

The DHF incubation period starting from the mosquito bite until the appearance of symptoms occurred after two weeks. After the bite the virus enters an incubation period and remains in the patient’s blood for 5 - 9 days. Dr Leonard explained that in general the signs of DHF are sudden high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes as well as in the muscles and joints, and loss of appetite, nausea and reddish rash on the skin. Symptoms on children may appear as mild fever accompanied by rash.

People should know, that thrombocytopenia often occurred on DHF patients (the thrombocyte level is below normal average) and that generally the amount of thrombocytes is <100,000 per="" milimeter="" cubic="" in="" order="" to="" prevent="" the="" incidence="" of="" dhf="" dr="" leonard="" suggested="" that="" people="" need="" maintain="" self-hygiene="" and="" clean="" environment="" have="" right="" understanding="" on="" body="" endurance="" p="">
